NOW HIRING ! – TEMPORARY MEO POSITION OPEN

The Town of Thurston is hiring a Temporary MEO. The position will be effective March 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026, with a pay rate of $22 an hour. A Class B CDL is not required. No benefits paid but will have paid holidays as well as the option to join the NYS Retirement System and NYS Deferred Compensation. Cover letter and resume must be submitted to Alan Crooker, Thurston Highway Superintendent, 4525 County Route 24, Cameron Mills, NY, 14820. Public Hearings – Local Law # 2 and # 3 of 2026

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Thurston Town Board will hold two public hearings on Wednesday, February 21, 2026 at the Town Hall located at 7578 County Route 333, Thurston, New York. The first will begin at 6:45 p.m. to consider the adoption of Proposed Local Law # 2 of 2026 Providing for Partial Exemption from Taxation of Real Property Owned by Senior Citizens with Limited Incomes, and the second at 6:50 p.m.to consider the adoption of Local Law # 3 Providing for Partial Exemption from Taxation of Real Property Owned by Persons with Disabilities and Limited Incomes. The proposed Local Laws are on file in the office of the Town Clerk where they may be inspected during regular business hours, and are also posted on the Town Website at https://townofthurstonny.gov. Click on the “More” Tab and then “Local Laws”.  Interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard.

Paying Your Property Taxes

You can now pay your taxes using a credit card! Please go to our Tax Collector page for information on how to pay your taxes. We are happy to offer this new convenience to our residents.

HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE – PUBLIC SURVEY

The County is looking for feedback from residents as they update their Hazard Mitigation Plan. Please complete this short survey (link below) to let the County know what you view as the biggest potential natural disaster risk to Thurston. The deadline to complete this is February 26, 2026.
